Solar Energy The Science Of The Silicon Solar Cell

This page provides answers on how a solar silicon cell or photovoltaic (PV) modules works.

Solar energy is a renewable energy source that is produced by the suns rays. The earth receives radiant energy from the sun in the form of electromagnetic waves, which the sun continually emits into space. This energy can be tapped indirectly as wind, biomass and hydroelectric power, and directly as solar energy (thermal and photovoltaic).

Photovoltaics (PV) is the direct conversion of sunlight into electrical current, a process known for many years. With the development of the modern silicon solar cell, light particles that penetrate the cell cause electron activity resulting in the flow of electric current through a circuit.

The greater the intensity of light, the more current a solar cell generates. The current moves through a series of cell, called modules, to a battery where it is stored. Battery storage assures the user of electricity when needed, day or night.

SOLAR POWER AND PHOTOVOLTAIC

Every day, the sun delivers energy to the earth free of charge. People can use this free energy thanks to a technology called photovoltaic, which converts the suns energy into electricity. Photovoltaic (PV) cells (Solar cells) are made of special materials mainly are semiconductors such as silicon and some metal oxides. The silicon cells convert sunlight directly into electricity. It occurs in the three energy-conversion layers. The first of these three layers necessary for energy conversion in a solar cell is the top junction layer (Negative-type semiconductor). The next layer in the structure is the core of the cell; this is the absorber layer (the P-N junction). The last of the energy-conversion layers is the back junction layer (Positive-type semiconductor).

ELECTRICITY WAS GENERATED AS FOLLOWS:

1. Electrons separate from their atom caused by Sunlight radiation.

2. Electron hole, simply called HOLE, and electron begin to move toward the P-N junction.

3. When hole we mean of maintaining a clean environment that will be worth living in for future generations and with our products we are making a contribution to peaceful development of our planet that will give all regions of the world equal access to energy. With the strength of the energy from the sun available everywhere and in limitless quantities both these things are possible.
