Elon Musk Promises Major New Tesla Product And Its Not A Car

Elon Musk Promises Major New Tesla Product And Its Not A Car
Elon Musk doesn't need a public relations department. He's got Twitter.

The Tesla Motors CEO has by now developed a reputation for making big announcements on Twitter. That's how he let the world know about the dual-motor all-wheel drive Model S P85D, among other things.

However, Musk's latest big tweet isn't about a car.

On Monday, he teased that a "major new Tesla product line" that is not a car will be unveiled at the company's Hawthorne, California design studio April 30, at 8:00 p.m.

Naturally, Musk didn't give any clue about what that product line might be, although he previously discussed selling batteries for home energy storage. Two subsequent tweets already have some fans convinced that is what the mystery product will be. After noting that SolarCity - a he company also owns - hit a daily energy record of 5 gigawatt-hours, Musk said that "with all of that solar power being generated, it almost feels like something is needed to complete the picture"

Something like batteries to store all of that energy, perhaps? It seems logical given the little information available, but it's probably best not to jump to conclusions with one month to go until the unveiling.

A home energy-storage system is also pretty boring compared to what the Twitter mob has come up with. Some of the more humorous guesses include a hoverboard, a space elevator, and an analog watch (ha).
