State To Give 800 Bigha Land For Solar Power
Guwahati: The Union minister of state for power, Piyush Goyal, said the state government has agreed to provide 800 bigha land to set up a solar power facility in agreement with the Centre's thrust on harnessing renewable energy.

Goyal said the target would be to generate 40 MW solar power from the facility.

The Centre has promised to provide 24X7 power at affordable cost by 2019, Goyal said and added that the renewable energy sector will have a significant contribution in achieving the vision of power for all.

"The protection of the environment is an article of faith for our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. So, a lot of importance is being given to renewable energy. Besides thermal and hydro-power, the renewable energy sector will play a major role in achieving the goal of power for all," Goyal said.

He said the Centre has set an ambitious target of generating 1 lakh MW solar power, 60,000 MW wind power and 10,000 MW power from biomass by 2022.

On the concluding day of the two-day power ministers' conference here on Friday, Goyal said he has asked the state government to explore the option of setting up "river top" and "canal top" solar panels.

The Union minister has requested the state government to sort out the 'right of way' issue regarding the 6,000-MW transmission line in the state.
